Situated at the crossroads of several French
regions, between Lorraine, Haute-Saône and the Vosges,
La Rochère is one of the last bastions of the glass-making
tradition.
Drawing on the surrounding natural environment, La Rochère
Crystal and Glass Works was founded in 1475 on the edge of
the forest that provided the wood for stoking the furnaces
and the ferns whose potassium-rich ashes assist the fusion
of glass.
Silica was extracted from the sandstone soil. Lime was supplied
fromthe limestone soil of the neighbouring Vosges region.
The harmonious blend of all these natural elements, assisted
by a touch of alchemy, gave birth to Crystalline.
